What do we do to reduce anti-social behaviour?

Bracknell Forest Homes is showing its commitment to keeping neighbourhoods safe and pleasant for customers by tackling anti-social behaviour. In the past year we have:

  • Worked with young people to offer new opportunities and exciting challenges, for example producing a radio show and visiting Oakwood Youth Challenge
  • Brought communities and partners together at estate action days in Harmans Water and Birch Hill for local people to meet and create a sense of pride in the
    neighbourhoods
  • Worked with partners, including the Council and Police, to reduce anti-social behaviour. This has included installing CCTV, joint visits and high visibility working on
estates and tackling hot spot areas where anti-social behaviour has been reported
  • Interviewed people who used to be perpetrators or victims of ASB to find out their experiences and make improvements to our service. This has included training for all housing staff, enhanced procedures and reporting and recording of incidents
  • Enhanced extra information for customers, which includes leaflets and support for people who experience anti-social behaviour
  • Used a range of means to tackle anti-social behaviour, including mediation, acceptable behaviour contracts, good neighbour agreements and as a last resort,
    injunctions, court action and eviction.

Respect logoFrom September 2009 to January 2010, we have evicted two tenants for anti-social behaviour and have successfully obtained a court order on a third case. Bracknell Forest Homes is creating a strategy to set out plans for community development and this will be launched in summer 2010. This strategy will support work to reduce anti-social behaviour by creating opportunities for people, creating a sense of belonging and developing places and spaces to take pride in. The housing association has also signed up to the “Respect Standard”, which was launched in 2006 for public services to deal with anti-social behaviour and its causes.
